While prison conditions vary widely among Kosovo's correctional establishments, meaningful activities for inmates such as work and other rehabilitative programmes remain rare.
To promote self-sustained and meaningful activities for inmates, UNOPS procured bakery equipment for the Lipjan Correctional Centre for Women and Juveniles. The centre’s bakery not only provides fresh bread and baked goods daily – it's also providing the skills women and youth can use to find future employment, supporting their reintegration into society.
“The launch of the Bakery in Lipjan Correctional Centre is a significant development toward improving the quality of life of the prisoners […] Inmates should be empowered with programmes that will enable them to cope once released." – Fabio Pinzari, Corrections Officer, Justice Section, UNMIK
