The armed conflict in Tigray in northern Ethiopia not only disrupted lives but also shattered access to vital services – from healthcare and education to food and clean water.
Statement attributable to Jorge Moreira da Silva, UN Under-Secretary-General and UNOPS Executive Director. He made the statement after visiting Sudan, as part of a visit that has also taken him to Ethiopia and Somalia.
In partnership with the Ghana Health Service and with funding from the Global Fund, UNOPS will procure essential medical equipment and supplies to help bolster healthcare delivery in rural Ghana and support tuberculosis testing and management.

The conflict in northern Ethiopia has had a devastating impact on millions of people and left communities, including those in Tigray, without access to basic services.
UNOPS is working with the government of Sierra Leone to develop solar mini-grid and standalone renewable energy systems with funding from the World Bank. The project will provide some 3,000 households, 500 schools, 350 businesses and 200 health facilities with access to electricity.
