As countries strive to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals, some will require support in order to reach their national targets. The Government of Japan and UNOPS are working together to provide that support.

Hosted at the United Nations University (UNU) headquarters, UNOPS Executive Director Grete Faremo will join Dr. Sabine Becker-Thierry, UNU Chief of Staff, for a conversation on how SDG implementation can be achieved and UNOPS role.

Co-hosted by UNOPS and UN Women, this side event to the Second Committee, 73rd session of the General Assembly, brings experts together to explore key policy choices facing countries as they seek to address gaps in their capacity to effectively plan, deliver and manage sustainable, resilient, inclusive and gender-responsive infrastructure. Nick O’Regan, UNOPS Director for Infrastructure and Project Management, will take part in the panel discussion.

The event will bring together a worldwide community of engineers to look at how real change can be brought about towards achieving the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals. Representatives from UNOPS Infrastructure and Project Management Group will be speaking at the event.

Blockchain Symposium: Closing remarks by Grete Faremo, Under-Secretary-Gene​ral and Executiv​e Director of UNOPS

The Government of Ukraine’s Ministry of Social Policy, UNICEF and UNOPS have launched a pilot project to protect the health and well-being of babies across the country.

The Blockchain Symposium will focus on blockchain in relation to identity, financial services, the Sustainable Development Goals and land registration. A book on the legal aspects of blockchain – a co-production of UNOPS, Blockchainprojects.nl and a consortium of legal experts – will also be presented during the symposium. UNOPS Executive Director Grete Faremo will give the closing remarks.

This Ministerial level side event to the UN General Assembly offers a platform to discuss essential elements of quality infrastructure and its promotion as an international standard. Co-organized by UNOPS, the European Commission and the Government of Japan, the event will focus on financing infrastructure and how this can be achieved without exposing countries to unsustainable debt risk. UNOPS Executive Director Grete Faremo is speaking at this event.
