UNOPS welcomes appointment of the next Executive Director
UNOPS welcomes United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres’ announcement today that Mr. Jorge Moreira da Silva will succeed Jens Wandel as UNOPS Executive Director.
From Portugal, Mr. Moreira da Silva has extensive development experience with a particular focus on climate change, energy and the environment. He is currently Visiting Full Professor at the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto and until May 2022, he served as Director of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) Development Co-operation Directorate.
From 2013 to 2015, he was Portugal’s Minister for the Environment, Territorial Planning and Energy and was active in the negotiations on the Paris Agreement and the 2030 climate and energy framework for the European Union. Prior to this, he served as environmental finance adviser and programme manager for innovative climate change financing at UNDP from 2009 to 2012. Mr. Moreira da Silva holds a degree in electrical and computer engineering.

Mr. Moreira da Silva will be the 8th Executive Director of UNOPS and will lead global operations across more than 80 countries.
