UNOPS and Government of Ecuador sign cooperation agreement
This year, UNOPS will start its first project in Ecuador to support the construction of a tramway. The project aims to improve the living conditions for the people of Cuenca and strengthen architectural and economic development in the city.
At the well-attended signing event, the President of Ecuador, Mr. Lenín Moreno said: "I am well aware of the important role UNOPS plays to support the transparency, relevance and effectiveness of highly complex projects in different neighboring countries. I am pleased that the Municipality and the Ministry of Transport and Public Works is relying on UNOPS to implement the tramway project."
UNOPS will support project coordination and infrastructure operations. Once finished, the 20-kilometer tramway will help transport up to 65,000 people a day between 27 stations.
