Supporting socio-economic development in Montenegro
With 1.4 million euros from the government of Norway, UNOPS will support the government of Montenegro in efforts to encourage development and reduce regional disparity across the country.
The ‘Norway for You – Montenegro’ project will contribute to the socio-economic development of the country by increasing employment opportunities, supporting social cohesion and improving local infrastructure in 16 least developed municipalities.
“Employment helps to ensure people are able to take care of themselves, their family, and the whole community in which they live,” said the Ambassador of Norway to Serbia, North Macedonia and Montenegro, H. E. Arne Sannes Bjørnstad.
He added: “We have good partners – UNOPS and the government of Montenegro – for the implementation of the project, and I believe that the support will be given to the ones who need it the most.”
Montenegro’s Minister of Labour and Social Welfare, Kemal Purišić said: “Employment directly influences the quality of life of the local population, and the Ministry of Labour and Social Welfare is ready to support such initiatives which stimulate job generation through enhancing [the] business environment.”
Over the next two years, the project will support Montenegro’s efforts to achieve targets set out by the Agenda 2030. UNOPS will help generate employment opportunities and provide vocational training to improve the living conditions and quality of life for local people.
“This project will contribute to a more balanced socio-economic development in Montenegro, which is in line with UNOPS mission: to help people build better lives, and countries to achieve sustainable development,” said UNOPS Head of Office in Serbia, Michela Telatin.
