Supporting critical healthcare needs in Jordan
With funding from the government of Japan, UNOPS will provide vital medical equipment, helping to strengthen Jordan's healthcare system and support a region in crisis.
Jordan’s healthcare system faces increasing pressure to meet growing demands. Since the onset of the conflict in Gaza, Jordan’s Royal Medical Services (RMS) has been at the forefront of responding to urgent humanitarian and medical needs, both within Jordan and in Gaza, including establishing field hospitals and facilitating medical evacuations.
To further enhance the operational capacity of the RMS, UNOPS will procure essential medical equipment with $3 million in funding from the government of Japan.
“By strengthening RMS facilities, we hope to significantly contribute to Jordan’s healthcare resilience – not only in addressing the country’s increasing medical needs but also in supporting Jordan’s broader response efforts in the region,” said Asari Hideki, Ambassador of Japan to Jordan.
This announcement of this new project coincided with the successful handover of a pediatric magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scanner and essential medical equipment to the RMS, funded by the government of Japan.
“Since the start of our partnership with the government of Japan and UNOPS in 2019, the projects have made a significant contribution to strengthening the RMS,” said Brigadier General Dr. Yousef Zureikat, the Director General of RMS.
Muhammad Usman Akram, Representative and Director of UNOPS Multi-Country Office in Amman said: “I am proud to witness another successful milestone in our long-standing partnership with the government of Japan in support of the RMS.”
