Supplying value, delivering results - UNOPS launches new eCommerce platform

UN Web Buy Plus brings increased efficiency and innovation to the procurement marketplace

The new solution offers users a complete customer-focused experience.

UN Web Buy Plus prioritizes intuitiveness and user-autonomy, making the purchase of aid and development goods and services both quicker and simpler.

"Procurement is an incredibly important part of the UN system's development and humanitarian operations around the world," said Grete Faremo, UNOPS Executive Director.

"UN Web Buy Plus speaks to this importance, as well as to UNOPS commitment to bringing innovation and efficiency to procurement operations – we owe this to the people we serve."

Unlike its predecessor, this new system incorporates an advanced search function, comprehensive supplier and technical product information, and supports multiple users from any one organization.

Self-service is key, with users now able to search, review and buy goods and services, without the need for an intermediary.

Client support is available from a qualified team of procurement professionals, but isn't necessary to make a purchase or arrange delivery.

"It's vital that our partners are able to get what they need, when they need it, to help support communities and countries impacted by disasters and conflicts," added Ms. Faremo.

UN Web Buy Plus offers an expanded list of products, which now includes mobile clinics, water tanks, solar panels, earth-moving equipment and generators.

Ten catalogues are currently available, with a total of 258 categories of products.

Since 2000 UN Web Buy, has delivered more than $1 billion worth of goods and services in 128 countries.

Everything offered on UN Web Buy Plus is reviewed prior to being made available for purchase. Sustainability considerations are an integral part of that process. For example, all vehicle suppliers are required to have an ISO 14001 Environmental Management System, or equivalent.

For trucks and buses, organizations are encouraged at the time of bidding to include information on the tracing and elimination of conflict minerals from their products.

Whether the organization and/or supplier has a corporate policy on conflict minerals is questioned, as is any current work undertaken to identify and eliminate these minerals, and any progress achieved to date.

UN Web Buy Plus is available to organizations within the UN system, as well as to national governments receiving aid, organizations that work with the UN system, such as donor governments and aid organizations, and internationally recognized non-governmental organizations.

It is constantly expanding and updating its catalogues to respond to global needs.
