Strong women leaders discuss a better future
UNOPS has a long-standing relationship with Denmark. This January we met Ms. Ulla Tørnæs, Danish Minister of Development Cooperation, to talk about future priorities.
Ms. Tørnæs visited UN City, home to UNOPS headquarters, on 11 January where she addressed a large gathering of UN personnel. The Minister helped secure Danish support for the creation of UN City during her first tenure from 2005 and 2010.
She highlighted in her speech several political priorities for continued cooperation between Denmark and the UN. Ms. Tørnæs also stressed the importance of stronger public-private partnerships for development in the future — a particular priority for UNOPS.
Later, UNOPS Executive Director Grete Faremo personally welcomed Ms. Tørnæs. At a private meeting, both leaders discussed the exciting role Danish innovation can play in the fields of development work and renewable energy, and how both UNOPS and Denmark can work together towards the Sustainable Development Goals.
