Since the UN General Assembly established UNOPS on 1 January 1995, UNOPS has been delivering practical solutions – making projects happen and responding where needs are greatest.

“For three decades, across development, peace and humanitarian operations, UNOPS has provided practical solutions to help ensure that the work of the United Nations is carried out efficiently, effectively and sustainably,” said UN Secretary-General António Guterres.

“As UNOPS marks its 30th anniversary, I salute all its personnel around the world – past and present – for their tireless dedication to the United Nations’ mission of peace, prosperity and dignity for all,” added António Guterres.

Since its founding, alongside partners, UNOPS has been dedicated to action. Today, that need to act in the face of the existential threats to our world has never been greater – with unprecedented challenges including climate change, humanitarian crises and persistent inequalities. And in this anniversary year, UNOPS will evolve its brand identity to explicitly highlight its commitment to the practical solutions that it can provide.

“Our world demands immediate action to address the immense needs faced across the globe. We urgently need to close the implementation gap that exists between sustainable development aspirations, and the reality of people’s lives,” said UNOPS Executive Director Jorge Moreira da Silva.

“As we mark UNOPS 30th anniversary, the need for practical solutions that respond to the world's growing challenges has never been greater. To recognize our anniversary and highlight the urgent global need for action where needs are greatest, we are rebranding to focus on what we do best,” added Jorge Moreira da Silva.

Rebranding UNOPS to emphasize practical solutions is intended to showcase and highlight our focus on tangible action, alongside our partners, for a more sustainable world.
