As part of a $7.3 million project, UNOPS will procure laboratory equipment and construct a wastewater treatment plant for the institute. UNOPS will work closely with partners to ensure the laboratory facility meets international standards for research and biosafety.

“UNOPS is honoured to contribute to Ethiopia’s public health advancements by delivering this important laboratory facility,” said Worknesh Mekonnen, Director of UNOPS Multi-Country Office in Ethiopia.

“We are committed to ensuring that this project will not only advance research but will also provide a sustainable and resilient infrastructure that will benefit Ethiopians for generations to come,” she added.

The project will enhance the institute's infectious diseases research and training capacity – helping to contribute to regional and global health security.
