Enhancing healthcare services for host communities and displaced populations in Cox’s Bazar

With over $1 million in additional funding, the groundbreaking Health and Gender Support Project in Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh, will further expand access to health services for vulnerable people.

Implemented through the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare with assistance from UNOPS, the $6.4 million project has made significant progress towards improving access to health, nutrition and population services as well as response services for gender-based violence.

“UNOPS is committed to supporting the government of Bangladesh in its efforts to improve healthcare infrastructure and services,” said Sudhir Muralidharan, UNOPS Country Manager in Bangladesh.

The emergency response component of the project is specifically designed to deliver immediate assistance during health crises impacting these communities. UNOPS is procuring essential laboratory equipment, medical devices and medications critical to the Tuberculosis control programme in Cox’s Bazar.

“UNOPS played a significant role in providing the diagnostics equipment, medical and surgical consumables and pharmaceutical products including anti-TB medicines for TB patients,” said Dr. Shah Md. Helal Uddin, Additional Secretary and Line Director, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, government of Bangladesh.

“This project ensures our shared commitment to improve healthcare access and outcomes in Bangladesh,” he added.
