In the race towards the 2030 Agenda, UNOPS works closely with partners to help Least Developed Countries prosper and achieve sustainable development.
Least developed countries (LDCs) represent around 880 million people. That is 13 per cent of the world’s population. The United Nations currently deems 46 countries to be least developed based on their high vulnerability to external economic shocks, natural and human-made disasters and communicable diseases. LDCs confront the biggest barriers to sustainable development. They face energy poverty, limited access to markets, lack of productive capacity and climate vulnerability.
Together with our partners, we implement a broad range of sustainable development projects in LDCs – supporting vulnerable communities and advancing opportunities and equality. We increase access to sustainable energy. Build critical public infrastructure. Strengthen resilience. Support socio-economic development. Expand health capacity.
