New wastewater treatment facility to support sustainable economic growth
With funding from the government of Japan, UNOPS constructed a new wastewater treatment plant at the Jericho Agro-Industrial Park in the State of Palestine.
The Jericho Agro-Industrial Park was established with the support of the Japanese government to foster sustainable economic development and serve as a manufacturing hub in the State of Palestine. A new state-of-the-art wastewater treatment plant, constructed by UNOPS, will support the hub’s operational needs.
The new facility represents a significant advancement in Jericho Agro-Industrial Park’s ongoing commitment to fostering sustainable economic development and environmental protection.
“The facility aligns with Japan's ‘Corridor for Peace and Prosperity’ initiative, fostering sustainable development in Palestine. Japan called for further efforts by Palestinian partners to maintain the facility, ensure proper wastewater management, and use it to facilitate the development of manufacturing sector activities,” said Ambassador Araike Katsuhiko, Representative of Japan to Palestine.
UNOPS is committed to delivering infrastructure that supports environmental sustainability and resilience.
“The new plant is a significant step forward in promoting environmentally responsible business operations in the industrial park. We are proud to partner with the government of Japan and the Palestinian partners on this important initiative,” said Sophie Nyirabakwiye.
The advanced wastewater treatment plant will become a crucial asset for the manufacturing operations of the industrial park’s tenants. By effectively treating industrial wastewater, it will prevent the discharge of untreated wastewater into local water resources and generate alternative water sources suitable for reuse.
Equipped with cutting-edge technology and a daily treatment capacity of 400 cubic metres, the plant is designed to accommodate current needs and future expansion.
