Today marks 10 years since the start of conflict in Yemen.

The devastating impacts of this conflict, a changing climate, a deteriorating economy and collapsing public services have led to a dire humanitarian situation, with over half of the population in need of assistance and protection services.

In the face of immense needs, UNOPS remains committed to helping respond to humanitarian needs, while supporting Yemenis in their path to peace and sustainable development.

We work with our partners to bring practical solutions to support communities across Yemen.

We help restore and improve access to essential social services in urban areas, including water, health, and sanitation, solid waste management and electricity for millions of people

We help bring solar energy to provide improved access to electricity in rural and peri-urban areas of Yemen.

And we help build resilience to climate change, providing road access, and creating job opportunities for the food insecure rural population of Yemen.

UNOPS helps strengthen the health system, by improving infrastructure, empowering healthcare workers and ensuring vital services reach those most in need.

And crucially, on behalf of UN OCHA and the concerned Member States, we manage the United Nations Verification and Inspection Mechanism for Yemen (UNVIM), bringing life-saving essential supplies into the country. This is a confidence-building mechanism to enable the flow of commercial cargo to the ports of Hodeidah, Saleef, and Ras Isa. Since the beginning of its operations, over 2,300 vessels have been inspected through this mechanism. UNVIM has helped to facilitate the entry of over 34 million metric tonnes of food, over 17 million metric tonnes of fuel, and over 8 million metric tonnes of other cargo into Yemen.

We support humanitarian mine action in Yemen, and we provide operational support to the UN-led peace process in the country.

In the face of a dire humanitarian situation – made worse by military activities and a worsening of regional tensions – UNOPS remains committed to support the people of Yemen, to build a more peaceful, prosperous and resilient future.
