Our team visited an UNMAS project in Gaza to get a closer look at the unearthing of a deeply buried aerialbomb and what it takes to work as a bomb disposal expert.
In 2016, 19 sites suspected of containing these bombs were cleared by UNMAS Palestine teams, operating on a UNOPS implementation platform. The UNMAS Palestine Programme has executed a coherent and effective humanitarian assistance and stabilization response to these contaminated areas. These efforts have led a sense of security to return to families and communities living in Gaza.
As UNMAS’ main implementing partner, UNOPS is proud to support the delivery of UNMAS’ global mandate, which ensures an effective and coordinated response to the problems of landmines, explosive remnants of war and cluster munitions in some of the most challenging environments around the world, including some 18 countries and territories.
