My recent visit to Myanmar as UNOPS Deputy Executive Director for Delivery and Partnerships provided a powerful introduction to one of the UN's most complex operational environments.

Witnessing firsthand the work of our teams and partners across the country, I was deeply impressed by their unwavering dedication, ingenuity and resilience in the face of significant challenges.

In Myanmar, UNOPS provides vital support for millions. As the largest UN entity operating in the country today, our work spans critical health services for the most vulnerable, improved food security and rural development, and rapid emergency response.

I saw how our teams and partners navigate a rapidly changing landscape to deliver these essential services and build community resilience, implementing practical solutions to address the evolving needs. From life-saving HIV and reproductive health services at clinics in areas with limited healthcare access to support for communities affected by the polycrisis, the breadth and impact of our work are striking.

My conversations with beneficiaries facing immense hardship were very moving, as was the tireless dedication of the local organizations.

Beyond the programmes themselves, it is the people who make them happen. Our Myanmar team demonstrates exceptional strength, dedication, adaptability, perseverance and courage. Operating in this environment demands not only technical expertise but also these extraordinary qualities. I am grateful for their commitment.
