Aunque la población en Guatemala tiene acceso universal a la atención sanitaria, no siempre es posible cubrir todas sus necesidades. El sistema público de atención sanitaria se enfrenta a problemas como recursos limitados, cada vez más pacientes, altos costos médicos y de tratamiento e infraestructura deficiente. La cobertura de atención sanitaria de los niños era desigual y dependía del nivel socioeconómico de sus familias. Sin embargo, se ha trabajado para reducir las desigualdades y garantizar que todos los niños tengan la oportunidad de recibir los servicios especializados de atención sanitaria que necesiten.
